Articles : Total Energy Expenditure of Professional Soccer Players Measured by the Doubly Labeled Water Method |
|
Abstract |
To determine the daily energy requirements of soccer players, we measured total energy expenditure (TEE) in nine Korea professional Football League players(mean±SD; age 29±4years, height 180±7cm, body mass 75.7±10.3kg) during 7 days of a compertitive sesson using the doubly labeled water (DLW) method. Energy intake (El) was simultaneously estimated from 7 days of dietary record. Mean TEE and El were 16.8±2.4 MJ/day (4013±383 kcal/day) and 16.4±1.6 Mj/day (394l±382 kcal/day), repectively. Although there was no significant difference between total energy expenditure and energy intake, there wat a strong relationship between the two (r= 0.747. p<0.05). A physical activity level (PAI. = TEE/estimated basal metabolic rate) was 2.22±0.28. We discussed the energy requirements ofsoccer players during a competitive season based on PAL of both Korea and professional Football League Players. |
