Original Paper : Effects of L-arginine administration and/or aerobic exercise on IGF-I and Lipid profile in high fat diet induced obese rat
Abstract
The aim of present study was to investigate the effect of exercise and/or L-arginine on Insulin growth factor-Ⅰ(IGF-Ⅰ) and lipid profile in high fat induced obese rat. For our experiment, male Sprague-Dawley rats (n = 32) at age 6 weeks were divided into four groups as follows: (1) High fat diet (HF), (2) HF with Exercise (EX), (3) HF with Arginine injection (ARG), (4) HF with EX + ARG (EX + ARG). The groups performed the training program for 12 weeks. After the program, blood was collected from left ventricle for analysis. As a result of analysis, IGF-Ⅰ was significantly increased in both EX + ARG and ARG (p < .05) while IGF binding protein (IGFBP) was not significantly different among the groups. Total cholesterol (TC) and LDL-C were significantly decreased in EX + ARG and EX (p < .05). In conclusion, this study suggests that combination of regular aerobic exercise and L-arginine consumption might prevent cardiovascular disease by increasing IGF-Ⅰ and decreasing TC and LDL-C.
Key Words: IGF-Ⅰ, IGFBP, Exercise
